Toyota Unveils Grand AI Vision for Vehicles and Beyond
Toyota is betting heavily on artificial intelligence as the foundation for the next generation of vehicles and digital mobility. During a presentation at its experimental Woven City in Japan, the company introduced a new AI Vision Engine — a proprietary AI platform designed to power future safety systems, autonomous driving, and software-defined vehicles.
The new system analyzes visual data, driver behavior, road conditions, and surrounding environments in real time. According to Toyota, the AI Vision Engine can identify potential risks, predict dangerous situations, and coordinate multiple vehicle systems simultaneously.
Toyota believes autonomous driving is no longer just about fixed algorithms, but about continuous learning. That is why the company is building a large-scale machine learning ecosystem capable of collecting data from millions of connected vehicles, improving AI models, and deploying updates over the air.
A major part of the project is being developed by Woven by Toyota, the company’s software-focused division. Woven is responsible for Arene — Toyota’s next-generation vehicle software platform. Early elements of the architecture have already appeared in the new 2026 Toyota RAV4.
Toyota also sees applications for its AI Vision technology beyond the automotive industry. The company is testing the platform for use in airports, retail, offices, and smart city infrastructure. The system can process live video streams, recognize dangerous scenarios, and assist with real-time operational management.
As some automakers reduce investments in EV and software projects, Toyota continues expanding its long-term AI strategy. Industry experts increasingly describe the future not simply as “software-defined vehicles,” but as “AI-defined vehicles,” where artificial intelligence becomes the core operating layer of mobility.
